Aphrodite is the highest loved, and uttermost beautiful goddess of them all. She has many lovers of all sorts. Along with all the lovers, she gave birth to many children who is known to this day. She is very unique compared to others; she is the goddess of love and beauty. Aphrodite is given many gifts, especially flowers. Below is a part of The Kypria frag. 6 stating some of these gifts.
“She clothed herself with garments which the Graces and Hours had made for her and dyed in flowers of spring – such flowers as the Seasons wear – in crocus and hyacinth and flourishing violet and the rose’s lovely bloom, so sweet and delicious, and heavenly buds, the flowers of the narcissus and lily. In such perfumed garments is Aphrodite clothed at all seasons. Then laughter-loving Aphrodite and her handmaidens wove sweet-smelling crowns of flowers of the earth...” – The Kypria frag. 6
Aphrodite was born from Zeus, god of the sky, and Dione, a Titan goddess. Another version of Aphrodite's story is Ouranos body parts were cut off and threw into the sea; from that the formation of sea foam started in which the Greek Goddess Aphrodite arose from. As stated in the Hesiod, Theogony 178:
“She came to sea-girt Kypros, and came forth an awful and lovely goddess, and grass grew up about her beneath her shapely feet. Her gods and men call Aphrodite.” – Hesiod, Theogony 178
She and Hephaestus, god of all blacksmiths, were married. Hephaestus tries everything he can to keep Aphrodite forever, but this did not work out so well. He even tries making her a girdle, which has enchanting powers of admiration, and affection. He showers her with his love and devotion, but she still has many love affairs with other gods like, Ares, god of war, Dionysus, god of wine, Hermes, god of the messengers, Poseidon, god of the ocean and even a human Adonis. A woman like her who has many love affairs, did have many children, a few of the most known are Anteros, son of Ares, Eros, was also son of Ares, Harmonia, daughter of Ares, Beroe daughter of Adonis, and Hermaphroditus who was Hermes son.
Aphrodite is so unique compared to other gods and goddesses. She is the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite is not weak like other goddesses. She has never hurt by a god, or agonized because of one. Her and her son Eros, also known as Cupid, were powerful together. Eros is nowadays shown as a little boy in a diaper with wings, but that is not how the greeks portrayed him. In previous portraits, Eros was a beautiful mature young man. Eros has long curly hair, with long white wings attached to his back. He does not wear a diaper, of any sort.
Zeus and Aphrodite might not seem too alike, but let’s break it down. Indubitably, they are all greek gods and Olympians. Did you know they both tortured the civilians that did not appreciate them the way they wanted them too. Zeus had many lovers, with that he created many gods and goddesses, as so did Aphrodite. Aphrodite’s attributes are doves, sparrows, and swans; notice how they are all birds. Zeus’ attributes are a lightning bolt, a sceptre and an eagle, lucidly they are not all birds, but the eagle is.
Artemis and Aphrodite have almost nothing in common, not even their attributes. Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty, she is not a hunter at all, at least not when it comes to the hunting of animals. Artemis is the goddess of hunting, forests, hills, and the moon. Aphrodite had many lovers, whereas, Artemis only had one, who died. Artemis is known as the Virgin Goddess, she never gave birth to any children.
Can you imagine always loving different people, never knowing who you are truly dedicated to? This is Aphrodites problem, she can not ever decide who she wants to be faithful to. Of course Aphrodite is drop-dead gorgeous so every god in town wants to have their share, but that doesn’t mean they all deserve it. It can be difficult choosing a partner if everyone loves you like everyone loved Aphrodite, so she just kept right on searching. Imagine if you love someone, but they didn’t feel the same; Aphrodite is in your shoes, a sentence from Rick Riordan book, The Titan’s Curse can show you exactly what I mean.
“Not knowing is half the fun," Aphrodite said, "Exquisitely painful isn't it? Not being sure who you love and who loves you? Oh, you kids! It's so cute I'm going to cry!” -Rick Riordan, The Titan’s Curse.
Aphrodite is the highest loved, and uttermost beautiful goddess of them all. She was born from Zeus and Dione, her siblings were all the other Greek gods, half or not. She married Hephaestus, but had many love affairs with other gods. She was so beautiful and respected that when others did not adore her, she tortured them, some even to death. Aphrodite gave birth to many including the most renowned Eros, or Cupid. In the end, no matter what your perception of Aphrodite is, she clearly was the highest loved, and the uttermost beautiful goddess of them all. Aphrodite has many secret dates with other Greek gods, because of her actions Aphrodite has tons of children to deal with. Her story is so known and so powerful it will keep living on forever.
